Added Spice At Ultimate Challenge Weigh-Ins Sets Up "Never Back Down"
Weigh-In Photos and Press Conference Notes by Dave Lethaby.
(Tensions rise as Facey and Roberts square off)
Never back Down looks like it could be a solid night of action, particularly after some added extra spice at today’s weigh ins. Jermaine Facey vs Dyson Roberts looks to be a real grudge match with both fighters swapping insults during the press conference. The exchange seemed jovial at first but soon descended into what appeared to be genuine steel between the two fighters. The row continued between the fighters long after the cameras were switched off, I expect both to come out swinging at fight time.
(Former teammates Grove and Economou are respectful at the press conference)
Neil Grove ladled fellow heavy’s Karlos Vemola and Rob Broughton “lucky” for securing a deal with the UFC. Clearly annoyed with the news, Grove stated his frustration would be taken out on his opponent on the night Stav Economou. That was as far as tension got between the two however with the stare down passing off jovially.
(Paul “Boom Boom” Cahoon)
Paul Cahoon looked in great shape at middleweight, when questioned on taking the fight at late notice Cahoon informed FIGHT! that he had already been preparing for a bout abroad that fell through 2 weeks prior. Earl Brown genuinely forgot Cahoon’s name when discussing his opponent but one feels he may remember it after what will surely be a slugfest to remember.
(“The Poster Boy” stares down the challenger to his throne)
Reza Meldavian showed no fear when discussing the prospect of taking on unbeaten Jimi Manuwa. Meldavian stated he wasn’t afraid of fighting or even death and that his wildly open fighting style wouldn’t change (despite his opponent’s pedigree). Manuwa himself looked in stunning shape at the weigh ins and will start a hot favourite to add to his unbeaten record.
