Danny Batten’s hiatus from competitive MMA action is fast approaching two years. However, the formerly top-ranked domestic featherweight is all set to return to battle, and hopefully the top of the rankings, at Sweden’s Zone FC. The event on March 27th was slated as the host of Batten vs. Corassani, but the latter has been forced to withdraw due to illness just days out from the event.
All is not lost for Batten as the promotion are working diligently on providing another top class name for him to fight, with some of Europe’s best featherweights in the picture including Oriol Gasset (10-4) , Ivan Buchlinger (10-1), Nikolaj Haustov (8-2) and Emmanuel Fernandez (10-4-1). Whilst nothing is confirmed, any of the prospective encounters would have huge connotations amongst the 145lb elite, and would thrust Batten straight back into despite his lengthy tenure away.
Ian Dean, of Warrior Promotions, has been working closely with Batten for this fight and said:
“I spoke to Danny’s manager and we’re all gutted that Corassini has withdrawn from the fight this weekend. He is a top quality European fighter and I think it would have been an interesting clash. I spoke to Marko Gyllenland [promoter] and I know he’s working really hard to get the right replacement and we hope to have something confirmed by the close of play today.”
Zone FC: Evolution will no doubt be another great card of action, with the promotion fast becoming renowned for its professionalism and quality. Hopefully we can confirm a replacement for the impressive fight card today. Until then, head to thezonefc.com for more information on the promotion and this weekend’s fight card.
