Barring the main event, the WEC put on another satisfying night of fights in Edmonton, and if our rankings are any indication, the card set matchmaker Sean Shelby up with several legitimate bantamweight title challengers. Full results, updated rankings, and FIGHT! Pick recaps are below.

WEC General Manager Reed Harris handed out $10,000 bonuses after WEC 49; Mark Hominick and Yves Jabouin took hom “Fight of the Night,” Eddie Wineland scored the “Knockout of the Night,” and Josh Grispi grabbed “Submission of the Night.”
At FIGHT! Magazine, we believe there is a need for a completely objective and unbiased ranking system for fighters to replace the myriad subjective rankings that have become skewed, in many instances, by fighter popularity. In an effort to address this issue FIGHT! Magazine brings you its computerized rankings system which takes into account a fighters strength of opponent, strength of performance, and frequency of activity.
Mid-level lightweights duked it out at WEC 49 – Jamie Varner maintained his #34 ranking following his split draw with unranked Kamal Shalorus, Chris Horodecki climbed from #84 to #69 in our Lightweight Rankings after his win over unranked late replacement Danny Downes, and Karen Darabedyan entered our rankings at #111 after his loss to unranked Will Kerr – but as usual most of the relevant movement took place in the bantam- and featherweight divisions.
At Featherweight, Josh Grispi jumped from #12 to #4 after finished LC Davis, who dropped from #8 to #20. Mark Hominick moved from #17 to #12 after stopping unranked Yves Jabouin. Eric Koch enters our Featherweight Rankings at #25 after defeating unranked Bendy Casimir and Diego Nunes moves from #35 to #28 after beating once highly-ranked Raphael Assuncao, who slides from #28 to #37 after dropping his second straight.
At 135, Wagnney Fabiano moves into the Bantamweight top five, #5 actually, as he is reassigned permanently to the division. The man he beat, Frank Gomez, falls from #11 to #16. Coming in right behind Fabiano, moving from #9 to #6 with his defeat of Will Campuzano, who takes up #22 in the Bantamweight Rankings following the loss. Two fighters entered the blue cage unranked and left as new members of the top 25 – Chris Cariaso comes in at #10 with the win and Rafael Rebello enters the rankings at #21. Renan Barao and Anthony Leone remain unranked.
We rebounded from the TUF 11 Finale disaster with a solid night of picks, and our one mistake is not one we feel particularly bad about. We are now 62-34 with our picks in 2010.
