At FIGHT! Magazine, we believe there is a need for a completely objective and unbiased ranking system for fighters to replace the myriad of subjective rankings that have become skewed, in many instances, by fighter popularity. In an effort to address this issue FIGHT! Magazine brings you its computerized rankings system which takes into account a fighters strength of opponent, strength of performance, and frequency of activity.
Rich Franklin said he doesn’t want to be remembered as the guy who ended Chuck Liddell’s career so we’ll meet him halfway and mark him as the man who permanently removed the Iceman from the top 25. Liddell drops from #23 to #31 in our Light Heavyweight Rankings, while Franklin lends credence to his claim that he wants to pursue a title shot at 205 with the win, moving from #17 to #13.
Pat Barry was poised to make some noise in our Heavyweight Rankings but instead fell from #32 to #40 with his submission loss to Mirko Filipovic. “CroCop” moves back into the top 20, jumping from #27 to #19, and will likely face a stiffer test the next time he steps into the Octagon. In other heavyweight action, Ben Rothwell earned five spots, from #18 to #13, with his decision win over Gilbert Yvel, who drops from #26 to #27.
Three ranked fights were contested in the welterweight division on Saturday. Martin Kampmann bounces back into contention and the #9 spot in our Welterweight Rankings with his defeat of fast-rising Paulo Thiago, who falls to #24. Former WEC champ Carlos Condit moved from #28 to #20 with his win over unranked Rory MacDonald, and Mike Pyle climbs from #55 to #38 with a win over Jesse Lennox, who falls hard from #56 to #86.
Lightweights duked it out on the Spike-televised portion of the undercard. Perpetually on-the-cusp Tyson Griffin slips from #12 to #19 in our Lightweight Rankings following his upset loss to Evan Dunham, who climbs from #18 to #11 with the win. Matt Wiman jumps to #36 after his controversial stoppage win over Mac Danzig, who falls to #81.
David Loiseau lost ground, falling from #83 to #90 in our Middleweight Rankings after losing to unranked Mario Miranda. Wilks, Sobotta, Patrick, and Funch remain unranked.
