WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz was a mixed bag. The WEC made it’s first stop in Columbus but it may have marked lightweight pioneer Jen Pulver’s final trip to the cage. Dominic Cruz became a star by taking the Bantamweight belt but former champ Miguel Torres’ comeback tour was derailed on its first night. Rarely is the insane unpredictability of MMA better illustrated than it was in Columbus. Former-champ Torres looked bad in his loss to Benavidez and Cruz took the title but not in the way anyone thought he would.

Joseph Benavidez, Leonard Garcia, Anthony Pettis, and George Roop each took home $10,000 fight night bonuses. Garcia vs. Roop was named Fight of the Night, Pettis earned knockout of the night, and Benavidez won Submission of the Night.
Garcia and Roop each cashed in as the evening’s “Fight of the Night” for their preliminary-card brawl, Pettis was awarded the “Knockout of the Night” award, and Benavidez earned the “Submission of the Night” bonus for his second-round chokeout of Miguel Torres.
Each bonus was worth $10,000.
According to WEC General Manager Reed Harris, WEC 47 drew 8,345 fans to Nationwide Arena.
