At FIGHT! Magazine, we believe there is a need for a completely objective and unbiased ranking system for fighters to replace the myriad of subjective rankings that have become skewed, in many instances, by fighter popularity. In an effort to address this issue FIGHT! Magazine brings you its computerized rankings system. Let’s take a look at how WEC 46 shook up our rankings.
Benson Henderson jumped 12 spots (17 to five) to crack the top five after taking out Jamie Varner in the WEC Lightweight Championship unification bout. Varner dropped from #15 to #38 in the 155-pound rankings.
Urijah Faber bounced back from #9 to #5 in the featherweight rankings with his defeat of Rafael Assuncao, who enters our rankings at #24 on the featherweight list.
Deividas Taurosevicius jumped into the top ten (#17 to #8) with his victory over unranked-but-tough Mackens Semerzier.
Mike Thomas Brown stayed at #5 after beating Anthony Morrison, who needs two more qualifying fights to enter our rankings.
Charlie Valencia jumped from #15 to #7 with his defeat of Akitoshi Tamura, who enters the FIGHT! rankings at #17. Coty Wheeler dropped three spots from #36 to #39 in the featherweight rankings after losing to yet-unranked Will Campuzano. Wagnney Fabiano crept up from #13 to #11 in the featherweight rankings with his bantamweight victory over unranked Clint Godfrey – once Fabiano has three qualifying fights at 135 pounds he will enter the bantamweight rankings. Mark Hominick leapt from #26 to #15 on the featherweight charts and knocked Bryan Caraway down from #14 to #36 in the process. Former WEC Bantamweight Champion Eddie Wineland cracked the top 10 again, moving from #18 to #9, while George Roop fell from #70 to #91 on the lightweight list.
