Karl Amoussou: There Are Lots of Fighters That I Have to Knock Out
Karl “Psycho” Amoussou has fought in the U.S. before but he remains a mystery to most American fans. Scheduled to face Nick “The Goat” Thompson at M-1 Global: Breakthrough on Aug. 28, the 23-year-old prospect will instead fight John Doyle due to an injury Thompson sustained while training.
Named the number one European prospect in a Sherdog.com rundown, Amoussou has demonstrated explosive striking, takedowns, and submission skills in racking up a record of 10-2-1 while fighting mostly for M-1. He owns a win over TUF cast member Mike Dolce and a loss to M-1 Global prospect Lucio Linhares. Amoussou, works full-time as a plain clothes police officer in a anti-gang and narcotics unit, is a powerful welterweight, so much so that he seems on the verge of losing control when swarming out-matched opponents. The “Psycho” is M-1 Global’s stud at 170 pounds but outside of a rematch with Linhares, they have no compelling matches for him right now. You have to wonder if the “Breakthrough” show is a prelude to M-1 sharing the French phenom with its new promotional partner, Strikeforce
“The U.S. is a great country. I’m back and I announce that I’ll come back a lot of times because there are lots of fighters who fight in American organizations that I have to knock out,” Amoussou stated in an M-1 Global press release.
HDNet will broadcast M-1 Global: Breakthrough live on Fri., Aug. 28 at 10 p.m. ET.
