Jake O’Brien doesn’t talk a lot about fighting. He doesn’t talk a lot about anything, really.
But O’Brien is talked about and it’s rarely good. Like a heavier Sean Sherk, online pundits trash O’Brien for grinding out wins with takedowns and body control, and it has seemed at times that the UFC was frustrated by it as well, especially so after he spoiled Heath Herring’s Octagon debut with a less-than-thrilling decision victory. Having started his career with eight consecutive stoppages, O’Brien has had trouble putting all the pieces of his game together at the highest level. “I’m only 24, so I’m not in a hurry, you know,” O’Brien said. “Now that I’ve had some fights against top guys you’ll see it come together.”
