Cage Fashion 2: Amber Nichole Hosts Runway Show
By FIGHT! contributor Romey Louangvilay
This weekend Las Vegas will be overrun with fighters, fans, and MMA industry insiders in town for UFC 100. But it looks like it’s going to be extra crowded in those hotels and bars this weekend since there will get some fashion industry professionals in town as well.
As part of the weekend festivities, XYIENCE will join the hottest brands in MMA to host Cage Fashion 2. The New York Fashion Week-inspired runway show will be held at Mix, a luxurious lounge and restaurant in the Hotel Tower at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
The runway show will be lead by XYIENCE spokesmodel and former UFC ring girl Amber Nichole, who will walk the runway in MMA-inspired gear from major labels including Badboy, Ecko MMA, FightChix, Guillotine, Tokyo 5, Silver Star, Vandal Eyewear and many others. She will be joined by fighters Lyoto Machida, Shogun Rua, Diego Sanchez, Pete Sell, Gabriel Gonzaga, Phillipe Nover, Luis Cane, Roger Huerta, Eddie Alvarez and Frank Trigg.
It will be kind of weird to see some of the fighters on the runway as they are broader and more muscular than the traditional slender 6’1’’ male model that stroll the runways in other fashion shows. However, using the fighters is smart move to draw in the MMA crowd.
All models will styled by renowned New York City-based stylist Rodney E. Hall [Harper’s Bazaar, GQ Magazine] and celebrity makeup and hairstylist Debra Weite. Mike Straka from Fox News’ Fight Game will be the commentator/host for the event.
Hall believes that this fashion show will exhibit the fast growing lifestyle and fashion scene in Vegas that few recognize. “The whole thing behind the fashion, MMA combo is that it is virgin territory when it comes to expansion outside of just MMA fans, even though it is a rapidly expanding genre and sales are still through the roof,” said Hall. “It can be lifestyle branded, for the fan base and further for future shows and to help give Vegas that fashion credibility”.
The event is by invitation only and the doors open at 7 p.m. – models walk the runway at 8:30 p.m. The public can register by visiting Cage Fashion. For those of you who want to see Amber and the fighters’ inner fashionisto but can’t make it to Vegas, Fox News Fight Game will broadcast Cage Fashion Show live simultaneously with IBN Sports.
